Variable Defense Shield- At first glance this looks like a slight variant of the active shield unit and in many ways the Variable Defense Shield is based on that architecture. Designed for moderate to heavy sized zoids the Variable defense shield consists of three pieces. First and most obvious are the two high output shield generator panels. These two panels on reinforced support arms project a semi-spherical energy barrier akin to the energy shield utilized by the Liger series. These shields while not encompasing the entire zoid can cover from one quarter to one half of the zoid depending on its size and can be slid around a spherical plane encircling the zoid allowing the pilot to carefully choose which areas to protect. When extra reinforcement is needed the two shields can be overlapped for a single barrier of extraordinary defensive abillity. The panels and supporting arms themselves are also covered in heavy armor correcting a flaw with the predecessor active shield unit, The third and final piece is a simple wrack of three heavy missiles which pack double the explosive power of standard issue general purpose missiles.
